About
Potential is not the problem. Access is.
Most people can remember a moment when somebody opened a door. A teacher who believed. A coach who saw something they couldn't yet see in themselves. A mentor at the right time. That door is what we exist to open — at scale.

Our Story
Talent has never been the problem.
Breaking Boundaries was founded on a simple belief: South Africa does not suffer from a lack of talent, ambition or potential. What is often missing are the pathways that allow those qualities to be recognised, developed and given the opportunity to grow.
Across our communities, there are young people capable of achieving extraordinary things. The challenge has never been finding talent. The challenge has been creating the environments where that talent can thrive.
That belief sits at the heart of everything we do. Meaningful change happens when people are surrounded by the right expectations, the right support systems and the right opportunities at the right time.
The Pillars
Five disciplines. One pathway.
The areas through which we develop young people from first touch to long-term impact.
Sport
A platform for discipline, teamwork and resilience.
Mentorship
Guidance from people who see potential before it is visible.
Nutrition
The foundation for consistent training, recovery and growth.
Leadership
Development of confidence, decision-making and accountability.
Community
Engagement that connects families, neighbourhoods and partners.
A principle
Diamond in the Rough
One of the greatest lessons we have learned is that the most remarkable people are often found in the places others overlook. You do not discover extraordinary potential by waiting for it to appear. You find it by investing in communities, building relationships and creating opportunities where others have stopped looking.
Our Identity
Our roots are proudly South African. Our ambitions are global.
Today, we have built an organisation recognised not for what it says, but for what it does — known for creating opportunities, developing people and building pathways that help young people realise what they are capable of becoming.
We believe that when the right environment exists, extraordinary outcomes become possible.
Because talent has never been the problem.
Potential has never been the problem.
The opportunity to unlock it is where everything begins.

Silverbacks & Hockey
We use hockey to open doors young people never knew existed.
Through structure, mentorship and high-performance training, we equip players with the tools to succeed on the ice and in life. Ice hockey is one of the most demanding and rewarding sports in the world — a platform through which young people can develop accountability, teamwork, confidence and self-belief.
Silverbacks Ice Hockey Club was built on that same philosophy. Hockey is not the destination — it is one of the vehicles through which opportunity is created.
We are not building hockey players. We are building people.
Why we do this
Four questions, one answer.
Why hockey?
Hockey demands focus, skill and intelligence. It rewards hard work. It teaches lessons that last a lifetime. More importantly, it creates a level playing field where talent can be discovered and nurtured regardless of background.
Why South Africa?
Because too much potential goes untapped. Because young people deserve world-class coaching, facilities and exposure. Because our country needs strong leaders, critical thinkers and resilient individuals — now more than ever.
Why development?
Development is about long-term impact. It's about building people who contribute to their families, their communities and their country. It's about creating a legacy that extends far beyond the rink.
Why access matters?
Access changes everything. When opportunity is given, potential is unlocked. When potential is unlocked, futures are transformed. That's how we break cycles and build generations.
